The “Moving Wall”
Modified Parent Pick-up, Bus Locations, and Parking Procedures
Thursday, November 1st through Monday, November 5th

Ponaganset High School is proud to host the “Moving Wall" - a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. This is a powerful opportunity for us teach students about this important time in our history and for everyone in our communities to honor those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Because we expect thousands of people to visit the “Moving Wall”, we are asking for your patience and cooperation by following the procedures outlined below.

In order to accommodate the Vietnam Memorial “Moving Wall” there will be temporary changes to the pick-up/drop-off procedures, parking, and bus locations. These changes will begin next week on Thursday, November 1st and continue through Monday, November 5th.  During the three impacted school days, the following changes will be in effect at Ponaganset High School:

·       Anan Wade Road will be closed by the Glocester Police for approximately 10 minutes during dismissal on November 1st, 2nd, and 5th.

·       Prior to and during dismissal no vehicles will be able to enter the high school campus until all buses have arrived and departed on November 1st, 2nd, and 5th.
(Approximately 1:445-2:25pm on Thursday and Friday and 11:45-12:25 on Monday).

·       Student pick-up vehicles will not be able to wait in the any paved student parking lot prior to dismissal. (These areas will be occupied by school buses and other vehicles so please plan to arrive at 2:25.)

·       All students are encouraged to ride a school bus on Thursday, Nov. 1st; Friday, Nov. 2nd; and Monday, Nov. 5th.

(Parking in certain lots will be restricted.)

·       If a student cannot ride a bus on these days, families are strongly encouraged to carpool to reduce traffic.

·       The front circle by the auditorium will be blocked from November 1st through 5th. No vehicles will be able to access this area. Please plan accordingly if you need to enter the high school main office.

·       All student drop-offs must be done using the Athletic entrance.

·       The location of Foster buses, Glocester buses, and out-of-district buses has modified for November 1st through 5th. Students have been informed about the new locations and staff will be on hand to assist.

Many thanks to the Glocester Police Officers, Fire, Rescue, EMA personnel who will be on site while the “Moving Wall” is at Ponaganset and who have been part of the team planning for a safe and orderly event. The parking and traffic flow changes and other safety procedures were developed in cooperation with them and they will be present at the “Moving Wall” to ensure the changes are safely implemented.

A special thanks to all the teachers, staff, administrators and community members who donated their time, energy, and resources to make this event a reality. This would not have been possible without a strong community-wide effort and the exceptional commitment of the Moving Wall Steering Committee at Ponaganset High School.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we engage in this memorable event. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Michael Barnes
Superintendent of Schools
